The production of aeruginosins by N. spumigena … laria spumigena under low (median 315µatm), mid (median 353µatm), and high (median 548µatm) CO2 concentrations. Our results demonstrate an overall stimulating effect of ris-ing pCO2 on C and N2 fixation, as well as on cell growth. An increase in pCO2 during incubation days 0 to 9 resulted in an elevation in growth rate by 84±38% (low vs. high Three filamentous and heterocystous cyanobacterial strains of Nodularia, Nodularia baltica, Nodularia harveyana and Nodularia spumigena, have been tested for the presence and induction of ultraviolet-absorbing/screening mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) by simulated solar radiation in combination with 395 (receiving photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) only), 320 (receiving PAR + UV-A In this study, changes in concentration of NOD and other NRPs during cyanophage infection of the filamentous cyanobacteria Nodularia spumigena were assessed using incubation experiments. Viral infection and lysis were associated with a significant reduction (93% at the 96 h post infection) of N. spumigena cell density. Allelopathy, the release of extracellular compounds that inhibit the growth of other microorganisms, may be one factor contributing to the formation and/or maintenance of cyanobacterial blooms. We investigated the allelopathic effects of three cyanobacterial species (Nodularia spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae and Anabaena lemmermannii) that frequently form mass-occurrences in … 2015-10-30 · Thus far, the negative effects of Nodularia spumigena blooms on aquatic organisms have been mainly attributed to the production of the hepatotoxic nodularin (NOD).

This species is also able to perform akinete differentiation, thus favoring the success of their populations under adverse conditions. Baltic sea trout (Salmo trutta m. trutta L.) were exposed orally to a single dose of food containing NODLN (125 mg/kg ww) from N. spumigena (strain AV1, from the Baltic Sea). N. spumigenawas characterized by a stronger allelopathic activity than Synechococcussp., showing a negative effect on all target species. The highest decline in growth, as well as the most apparent cell physical damage, was observed for the diatom S. marinoi.

2002-12-03 · As far as is known, all pelagic N. spumigena populations in the Gulf of Finland are toxic (Laamanen et al., 2001). In the present study, liver bioaccumulation and the histological effects of orally administered toxic N. spumigena on sea trout were examined under laboratory conditions. / Allelopathic effects of the Baltic cyanobacteria Nodularia spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae and Anabaena lemmermannii on algal monocultures. Before the addition of the bacteria, the N. spumigena biomass, expressed as in vivo chlorophyll a fluorescence, was identical among all treatments and controls. 2002-12-03 · As far as is known, all pelagic N. spumigena populations in the Gulf of Finland are toxic (Laamanen et al., 2001). Nodularin is a tumor promoter known to have killed wild and domestic animals by seriously affecting the liver. It is a liver carcinogen due to the inhibition of protein phosphataes. N. spumigena was characterized by a stronger allelopathic activity than Synechococcus sp., showing a negative effect on all target species. The highest decline in growth, as well as the most apparent cell physical damage, was observed for the diatom S. marinoi. Our findings suggest that cyanobacterial allelochemicals are associated with the cell physical damage, as well as a reduced performance in respiration and photosynthesis system in the studied microalgae which cause the inhibition of Histopathology revealed complete loss of liver architecture after 1-2 days of the single oral dose. From day 4 to 8, there was partial recovery of liver cells.
